enterotoxigenic E. coli
(ETEC) (en\'těr-o-tok"sī-jen\'ik)
ETEC strains of E. coli produce two plasmid-encoded enterotoxins (which are responsible for traveler\'s diarrhea) and are distinguished by their heat stability: heat-stable enterotoxin (ST) and heat-labile enterotoxin (LT).
